As a kid I hated people copying me, especially in art class (I'm no artist, believe me). Doing things my own way seems to have stuck.

I started Jan Juc Legal in 2023. Every boutique firm says it does things differently, so I'll skip that line, even though I fiercely believe it.

I've worked in law for over 15 years, across regulatory work, litigation, corporate and commercial law, and public and administrative law. In my twenties I spent five years overseas as a legal adviser in international human rights law and completed an MSt in International Human Rights Law at the University of Oxford. I wanted to move mountains. I still do; the mountains are just closer to home now. My focus is commercial and business law (and wills here and there), but integrity and transparency are built into how I work, whatever the matter.

That breadth is unusual in a small practice, and it's useful. I've sat on both the disputes and advisory sides, so I know how legal problems develop and how to head them off. I'd much rather you came to me before an issue became a dispute, but if it does, I'll be there for that too. Sometimes that means flagging a risk or giving advice you don't want to hear. I wouldn't be doing my job otherwise.

I also want working with a lawyer to feel refreshing: no surprises on the bill, fixed fees wherever I can, and room to ask the questions you've been unsure about.

I advise founders and growing businesses on contracts, risk, compliance, IP and disputes, and help Surf Coast locals with wills and estate planning.

I also work with other law firms from time to time, on a contract or consultant basis, when they need extra capacity or a second set of experienced eyes. I've been on the coast for eight years (originally a Kiwi, so please don't hold that against me), I surf, and I spend a lot of time in and around the ocean. It shows in how I work: clear, unhurried, honest.

I'm admitted in Victoria and New Zealand and practice in Victoria.
